MBBS alumni donate to ABU College of Medical Sciences

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, and members of the University Management team today visited the ABU College of Medical Sciences to receive MBBS Alumni donations to the College. 

The Provost of the College, Prof. Randawa while receiving the Management team, stated that when the Faculty of Medicine was upgraded to the status of a College it came with a lot of challenges, responsibilities and financial obligations. 

To meet up with the financial obligations, the College reached out to its alumni and he was glad to report that all the sets of alumni that were reached out to obliged and their donations started coming in. 

Items donated include 100 pieces of 4-legged classroom chairs, two pieces of spectrophotometer, one piece of PH meter, two pieces of Epson overhead projector, two pieces of HP laptops, reagents, test tubes, electric balance and HP meter. Physical works were also carried out at the medical students hostel.

The donations to the College were worth a total of Eight Million, Nine Hundred and Ninety Four Thousand, Five Hundred Naira Only (N8,994,500.00). 

The Director of Directorate of University Advancement (DUA), Prof. Ahmed D. Ibrahim applauded the efforts of the Provost for reaching out to the alumni and also thanked the alumni for obliging. He stated that beyond giving to the College the DUA was reaching out to alumni to give to the University as a whole. 

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabir Bala, while expressing his appreciation to the alumni informed them about the ABU endowment fund which board will be inaugurated on 16th June, 2021. “This is in order to make ABU self-sustaining especially in the light of dwindling funding from the Federal Government”, he said. 

He said that the College was really in need of such donations because of its expansion, with six new departments coming up without any existing structures. For the College to compete globally it would need about 200 billion Naira, he added. 

He encouraged the Provost to utilize the willingness of the alumni to help the College grow to its expectation.
